The 5G MVNO era
The 5G MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) era is here. Historically, MVNOs were the main operators in approaching and implementing new generations.
For example, in 4G there was an extended lag between when the host Operator offered 4G to its retail customers versus when it was offered to MVNOs. In fact, 4G was available to MVNOs 12 months after their host MNO released it to their customers.
In effect, MVNOs experienced some adverse consequences. Most importantly, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) leveraged their network control to keep high-spending data customers to themselves. This resulted in a significant decrease in MVNO customer retention and engagement. However, this appears to have changed with 5G.
Now, with 5G adoption in the UK rising steadily and becoming more commonplace, are MVNOs about to be left on the sidelines?
